Selected work

I'm Fatima, an interdisciplinary design researcher based in The Netherlands, with an MSc in Creative Intelligence and Technology from Leiden University. My work spans empirical and action research and multimedia design, in projects ranging from human-computer and cat-computer interaction to education research and inclusive design, and from prototypes to installations.

Hand-drawn schematic of the thesis setup. Two players each wear a finger pulse sensor, A0 and A1, wired to one Arduino, with a second drawing of the Arduino and mini-breadboard inside the box. On hover or keyboard focus a small green pulse travels from each sensor to the Arduino, out of step with each other.

Physiological synchrony and collaboration

A reproducible framework and study of heart-rate synchrony between two players collaborating in Overcooked.

Our drawing of the three-cat pilot setup: a black cat on a pink mat and a fish toy swinging from a rod above it. On hover or keyboard focus the toy moves along its dotted path and the cat follows it.

Cat-Computer Interaction

Five heuristics for cat-computer interaction, and a study testing one of them with three cats.

Individual TALIS 2024 plot comparing assessment self-efficacy for teachers who did and did not take part in each professional-development format.

Professional development and assessment self-efficacy

Researching development formats linked to Dutch lower-secondary teachers' confidence in assessment, analysing the 2024 TALIS sample.

A white Suzuki Bolan van in side view, the vehicle the 2018 group service proposal for wheelchair users in Karachi builds on. On hover or keyboard focus a ramp diagram labelled ramp length and rise fades in.

Inclusive mobility for wheelchair users

An action research project with NOWPDP and Careem on inclusive mobility for wheelchair users in Karachi.

The two lilac creatures from the collate group poster, one at each side facing each other on black. On hover the creatures open their eyes and follow the pointer. The card also covers an ongoing descriptive survey with nine responses.

Research workflow

A research workflow tool for researcher challenges, from a group class project to independent research.

This photograph of the V2_ 2023 group installation shows a red phone booth with a hanging handset and labelled decoder and volume controls, without people.

Now, can you hear me out?

A phone-booth installation about how distorted signals change a conversation, exhibited at V2_ in Rotterdam.

This group-project photograph shows sauerkraut jars, two fictional passports with fingerprint seals and fictional state names, and small fingerprint flags in a bowl of sauerkraut, without showing people.

Sovereign bacteria

A group exploration of the sovereign identity of our bacteria.
